As long as white supremacist groups with military potential continue to flourish our civil order is in peril. The President is himself now a potential target of these organizations because of his skin color and the supremacy of the office of the Presidency.
The election of President Obama is a historic event and he deserves to serve a full term. Hopefully he will be adequately protected from the armed far right. Thus far local police officials and private citizens have played a crucial role in identifying ongoing assassination plots.
Of course we don't want the authorities creating fake assassination plots but it makes sense that they scrutinize those armed groups preaching racial hatred.

King Was Murdered in Memphis by Tennessean James Earl Ray
Don't forget that Martin Luther King was murdered in Memphis while supporting a worker led struggle for better wages and living conditions. Now a Tennessee cracker has been exposed as seeking to do the same to Obama. Yet Tennesseans say it has nothing to do with white supremacy being a problem in the United States or Tennessee.
Indeed, David Duke, longtime white supremacist leader is about to hold a conference in Memphis as I write. Ignoring, denying, facilitating through silence white supremacy is a luxury only a silent white supremacist supporter can afford.
